A big wave of gratitude for South Carolina!

A big, big thank you to Girl Scouts of South Carolina–Mountains to Midlands and the town of Newberry, SC for welcoming me with Southern hospitality! It was my great honor and pleasure to give a talk and training for their volunteer kick-off event. Leadership + humor + empathy + Southern BBQ = beloved community. 

For many years I had a Girl Scout pen pal in Columbia, SC and I always imagined what it looked like where she lived and what was her life was like. So, I welcomed the chance to talk with people about their perceptions of New York, and share my perceptions of the South. No matter where I go, as I stressed in my training, I hope we never underestimate the ability to really listen to others' feelings and needs. I also hope that we can always have a genuine curiosity for others.

Featured below is one my favorite Scout swaps in a long time too. Thank you to Barbara Ann, Elizabeth and 200+ amazing volunteers and staff! Best line of the day: I hate it when people refuse to eat pizza in a clockwise fashion. Who knew??
